Prof. Atanas Georgiev

Associate Professor Dr. Atanas Georgiev is Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” (FEBA, SU). He is also Head of Department “Industrial Economics and Management” and Director of the FEBA Net-Zero Lab, as well as director of energy-related master’s programmes “Energy Markets and Services” and “Nuclear Technologies, Management, and Innovations” at FEBA, SU. FEBA, SU is the only AMBA-accredited school in Bulgaria and the only member school from Bulgaria in the AACSB, EFMD, and GBSN business school networks.

Atanas defended a PhD dissertation on the institutional independence of energy regulatory authorities at SU and has Master’s Degrees in “Energy Economics” and “Finance and Banking” from the same university. He has also visited specializations such as: IVLP/Global Energy Security (US State Department), “Generation Next” (Rossotrudnichestvo); “Pricing” and “Benchmarking” at the Public Utility Research Center (Florida, USA), “European Energy Law” at the Florence School of Regulation, energy economics at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, etc.

Since December 2022 Assoc. Prof. Georgiev is member of the Supervisory Board at UniCredit Bulbank. He is frequent guest-lecturer at the Diplomatic Institute (part of the Bulgarian MFA) and author of many energy-related publications. He has been member of the International Association for Energy Economics and member of the management board (2016-2024) at the National Committee of Bulgaria for the World Energy Council and the Electric Mobility Industrial Cluster (since 2019). He has been working as a consultant on restructuring in the energy sector at Uconomics Ltd. (2005-2009) and at Public Services Ltd. (since 2010). Assoc. Prof. Georgiev is also publisher and Chief Editor of the business media “Utilities” magazine and “Facilities” magazine.
