William Li is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of NIO (NYSE: NIO), a smart electric vehicle company founded in 2014 with the mission to shape a joyful lifestyle through high-performance vehicles and the ultimate user experiences. NIO is the world's first car company listed on three stock exchanges, namely New York, Hong Kong and Singapore. NIO has two car brands, NIO and ONVO. More than nine years after establishment, NIO has become one of the leading smart electric vehicle companies worldwide.

Li is a serial entrepreneur. He founded Beijing Antarctic Technology Development, one of the earliest internet companies in China, when he was at Peking University. In 2000, Li founded Bitauto, China's largest automotive internet company. Up until now, William Li has founded, co-founded and invested in over 40 companies in the internet and automotive industries.
In January 2018, William Li was selected the "Top 10 Economic Leaders of China 2017" by Sina Finance, People's Daily and Wu Xiaobo Channel. In 2024, Li was named the "EV Person of the Year" by Top Gear, an authoritative automobile magazine.
Born in Anhui, China, Li received his bachelor's degree in sociology, and minored in law and computer science at Peking University. In 2010, together with the China Society of Automotive Engineers (China-SAE), Li initiated Formula Student China (FSC), an engineering design competition for students, to continuously attract and develop young talent for the automotive industry.
